Philadelphia Independent Media CenterThe Philadelphia Independent Media Center is a local node of the indymedia network. Indymedia includes over 150 local media collectives world-wide printing news (video, radio/audio, print and web) in over 30 languages on six continents. The aim of the project is to 'empower people to be the media' while giving voice to the issues and people mainstream media ignores. Philly IMC was established in 2000 and has included a radio station, an audio webcast station a video collective a website and a newspaper. At this time the newspaper is the only part of the project which is not functional. Philly IMC also has a rigorous community training program as well as an organizing project, the Media Mobilizing Project, which aims to get communities left out involved in the media making process.
